This view is taken from the center of Blue Hill village at Main, Union, and Water Streets looking west up Main Street toward Tenney Hill. The election banner stretched across Main Street is for Teddy Roosevelt, presidential candidate for the Progressive or "Bull Moose" party in 1912 and his vice-presidential running mate Hiram Johnson.

Roosevelt, an outspoken member of the progressive wing of the Republican party at the time, left the party to help start the Progressive party when the Republican convention nominated a more conservative candidate, the incumbent President William Howard Taft. Blue Hill voted for the Roosevelt-Johnson ticket in 1912, the only presidential election from 1860 through 1988 in which a Republican candidate did not get the most votes. The card is postmarked 1914.
